The Tideswell Medical Foundation was founded in 1971

The Founder members were:
Chairman: Dr J A Culshaw.
Secretary: Mrs A Lomas.
Treasurer: Mr R Foster.
Solicitor: Mr A Tomlinson

The aim of the of the Foundation was to provide sheltered accommodation for aged or disabled Tideswell people on the Allies Field, Sherwood Road, Tideswell. A donation was given by Tideswell Wakes Committee of £1700 and other donations were received from local businesses, individuals, and in memoriam donations. Eventually it became clear that grants were not going to be available and the offer of the land was withdrawn.

The death of a patient en route to a Sheffield hospital prompted the need to have specialized equipment available in Tideswell. It was decided that if and when the foundation could help, various pieces of equipment could be provided for the benefit of Tideswell people.
